ObjectiveTo investigate the levels and correlates of physical activity during COVID-19 social distancing in a sample of the UK public.MethodsThis paper presents analyses of data from a cross-sectional study. Levels of physical activity during COVID-19 social distancing were self-reported. Participants also reported on sociodemographic and clinical data. Backgorund Recent evidence has showed that serum or salivary values of α-amylase predict endurance running performance. In this study we investigate whether serum α-amylase concentration may be associated with training status during a competitive season and after a detraining period in professional soccer players. Methods The study population consisted in 15 male professional soccer players from an Italian major league team (age [mean±SD] 27±5 years, weight 76.9±4.1 kg, height 1.82±0.05 m). A method for quantifying the outcome of goal-directed postural pointing was presented and used for relating the tremor output to the oscillations of single arm landmarks. The displacement of reflective markers placed on shoulder, upper arm, forearm, and hand were measured by an optoelectronic motion capture system in nine subjects holding a laser penlight pointed at a target. The high signal-to-noise ratio of the measured displacement series (from 7:1 for shoulder marker to 30:1 for hand marker) demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed system to carry out tremor analysis. While there is a long history of measuring death and disability from injuries, modern research methods must account for the wide spectrum of disability that can occur in an injury, and must provide estimates with sufficient demographic, geographical and temporal detail to be useful for policy makers. This work extends an initial descriptive evaluation focusing on athlete classification.
